Ruth C. Wilson

Ruth Cooper Wilson, 93, put on immortality, Monday June 21, at Community Hospital Anderson.

She was born September 15, 1927 in Trenton, KY, the eldest daughter of Charlie and Evelyn Nesby Smith Cooper. Her early years were spent in Trenton. In 1941, she became a resident of Anderson, IN when her family relocated, and lived the remainder of her life in Anderson.  Being a teen at the time, Ruth was enrolled in Anderson Sr. High School, graduating in 1946. After graduation she began her lifelong ministry of helping others through care-giving. She was employed by Dr. E.G. Hudson as a part of his office medical staff. She then moved on to become a certified nursing assistant for St. John’s Hickey Memorial Hospital and several home health agencies retiring after thirty-plus years of service.

She was an active, faithful member of Allen Chapel AME Church serving first as an Usher, next as a Stewardess and then becoming Stewardess Emeritus. She was also a committed worker of Allen’s Clothes Closet.

On November 24, 1949, Thanksgiving Day, Ruth Copper and Leander Wilson were joined in holy matrimony. This union brought forth Ruth Evelyn, John Charles, Leander Wayne, and Lynnette.

Cherishing her memory are daughters: Ruth Evelyn Hampton (James) and Lynnette Dixon (Jay); son: Leander Wayne Wilson (Grace) all of Anderson; Eleven grandchildren, twenty-eight great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild; sister-in-law Reeba Cooper and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Leander Wilson; son, John Charles Wilson; parents, Charlie and Evelyn N. Cooper; brother, John Cooper; sister, Dorothy M. Cooper-Chambers; brother-in-law, Bennie Chambers and several other beloved relatives.
