Rodney King Obituary

Rodney D. King, born on July 23, 1968, in Anderson, IN to Tommie and Virginia King, passed away leaving cherished memories with his family and friends. He was a dedicated reader of the newspaper, always staying informed on current events, and took great pleasure in watching his beloved Colts and Pacers. Rodney had a passion for cars, meticulously detailing them to perfection, and he found immense joy in gardening and being outdoors.

A hardworking individual throughout his life, Rodney began as a young boy running a paper route and later held supervisory roles at Mr. Steve’s Rentals, IMMI, and Helmer Scientific. He prided himself as a grill master and was known for pickling vegetables and preparing a variety of special dishes and all sorts of meats.

In his leisure time, Rodney could be found fishing, relaxing in his garage while listening to Prince, or enjoying the company of his brothers. He was a family-oriented man, treasuring every moment with his loved ones, particularly his grandkids whom he adored and called "his kids," always ensuring they left with candy, Mr. Freeze popsicles, or ice cream sandwiches.

Rodney will be remembered for his quiet demeanor and his infectious smile that brightened every room. His passing leaves behind a legacy of warmth and fond memories that will be deeply cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Rodney is survived by his wife, Dawn King; children Ra’Shai (Jesse) Reynolds and Rio King; grandson Princeton Reynolds; granddaughters Chandler Reynolds and Nile King; sisters Mae (Roosevelt) Wright and Carolyn (Chester) Malloy of New York; brothers Supt. Samuel (Pearline) King, Carl (Debra) King, Tommie (Toemeka) King, and Michael (Teresa) King; mother-in-law Roberta Johnson; sisters-in-law Michelle Johnson, Demetrice Hudson, Djuana King; brothers-in-law Douglas Johnson, Dayan Johnson, and Darcious Johnson; aunts Annie Delores Sall of AL, Claudia Blunt of FL and Mattie Wilson of AL; uncle Jessie Braxton; special friends; Rickey Gross, Damon Nunn, Marcus Townsend, Lee Chamberlain, Lee Smith, Steve Harrington, Henry “TC” Harden and a host of family of friends.
