Pastor Hue Guy Sr. Obituary

Life and Legacy of Pastor Hue E. Guy, Sr

Pastor Hue E. Guy was born on April 23, 1945, to the late Clarence Guy Sr. and Lue Virginia Guy.  He was a devoted father, spiritual leader, community servant and husband that dedicated his life to faith, family, and service.

Hue E. Guy departed this life on July 19, 2025. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Darlene Guy; two children Shawnee Denise Birdsong of Memphis TN and Quentin Guy of Fort Wayne IN. Two loving sister, Luevenia (Rudell) Payne of Olive Branch MS and Lular Gaddy of Olive Branch MS.  Two brothers, James (Queen) Miller and Terry (Alicia) both of Olive Branch MS. A proud grandfather of five grandchildren, Captain Kedrian (Shana) Guy, Claude Hollins, Jr, Demarcus Hollins, Lamico Guy and Cambria Birdsong.  Three great grandchildren, Jeremiah Hollins, De-Naishia Taylor and Brooklyn Bell.  He is also survived by a son-in-law, Claude Hollins, Sr and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.  Pastor Guy was preceded in death by three brothers, Clarence Guy Jr, Nathaniel Davis, Mark Guy and two children, Hue E. Guy Jr and Margo Michelle Hollins.

He was united in holy matrimony to the late Nora Guy, and to this union, four children were born: Shawnee Denise Birdsong of Memphis, TN, and Quentin Guy of Fort Wayne, IN. He was preceded in death by two of his children, Michelle Hollins and Hue E. Guy Jr.  Pastor Guy later married Louise Guy, with whom he shared many years of companionship and love until her passing in 2019.

A committed man of God, Pastor Guy preached the gospel and led one congregation for 56.  He offered spiritual guidance and hope to countless individuals. He moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana, in April 1967 from the South and soon after joined Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Fort Wayne, IN, under the leadership of Pastor McKinely Kizer.  During his time at Mt. Olive, he held several key roles including Chairman of the Deacon Board, Sunday School teacher, and instructor for the Missionary Society—roles he regarded as some of the most meaningful in his life.

On May 19,1968, Hue accepted and publicly announced his calling into the ministry. This was not an easy decision, as he understood the demands and sacrifices of spiritual leadership. He began his journey as an associate minister, humbly carrying out all tasks entrusted to him by the Pastor Kizer.

In November 1969, guided by divine inspiration, Pastor Guy was led to establish a new church dedicated to honoring God. What began as the Wayne Street Mission grew steadily under his leadership and spiritual vision. On April 11, 1970, the mission was formally organized and became The Star of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, a ministry he founded and faithfully shepherded for 55 years.

Pastor Guy’s impact extended well beyond the pulpit. He was a pillar of leadership and service in the Fort Wayne community, dedicating himself to numerous influential roles.  His contributions included serving on the Mayor’s Committee for Community Relations, the NIPSCO Community Action Board, the NAACP, the Urban League, and the United Men’s Group.  He was also the Founder and President of Fort Wayne Minister’s Conference and served as Moderator of the Institutional Baptist District Association.

Pastor Guy’s unwavering commitment to advocacy and community enrichment touched countless lives and left an enduring legacy in the city he deeply loved.
