Mamie Pugh Obituary

Mamie L. Pugh, 86, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, February 14, 2023. "Lureatha," as she was affectionately known by those who knew and loved her, was born on Sept. 18, 1936, the youngest child, of Butler and Julia (Hollis) Anderson in Lexington, South Carolina. She spoke very highly of her loving grandfather, who was instrumental in her life.

She was raised in Columbia, South Carolina and graduated from C A Johnson High School in which she was a proud alumni. Shortly after her high school graduation, she moved to Anderson, IN where she met her late husband, Charles Henry Pugh, Sr, in which they married in 1957, and unto this union four children were born.

She attended and graduated from Indiana Business College. Her employments included St. John’s Hospital and she retired from Guide Lamp, General Motors.

Lureatha who accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at a very young age, became a devoted, proud, and faithful member of Bethesda Missionary Baptist Church. She loved her church and church family and expressed it every day until the end. She loved all gospel music, especially Rance Allen, the Gaither Vocal Band and the Mississippi Mass Choir. She also enjoyed watching her reality shows, especially “90 Days Fiancé.” She loved sports and played softball for one of her earlier employer’s softball team. As she stated, she was a great outfield player and she enjoyed playing. She also enjoyed watching the Indianapolis Colts (when they were winning).  Her fondest and greatest memories were spending quality time with her family at Country Squire Lakes, North Vernon, IN. Lureatha loved being with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She also loved her family and friends so much.

Survivors include, her three children, Alicia A. Pugh, Sandy D. Pugh-Wilkins and Tracy D. Pugh, Alexandria, VA; sister, Ruby C. Boulware, Anderson, IN; sister in-laws, Nadine Anderson, Columbia, SC and Imogene Pugh, Muncie, IN.  5 grandchildren, Kelly Pugh, Duran Pugh, Samantha Pugh, Charles Pugh, II and Alexis Pugh. She had 7 great-grandchildren, Alexandria, Caleb, Wesley Jr, Wissian, Kaiver, Xylah, and Whitley. She is also survived by extended family, Paul B. Wilkins, along with a host of wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins and lifelong friends.

She went to join her husband, Charles Pugh Sr., her son, Charles Pugh Jr.; her parents; and her siblings, Ellarene Taylor, Lattie Turner, Bernadean Mitchem, Calvin Anderson, and Raymond Anderson.
