Lela Marshall Obituary

On Friday morning August 28, 2020, Lela Marshall 93, transitioned from this earthly home into the arms of her loving Savior Jesus Christ. She was born February 3, 1927 to the parents of Noah and Lela Holmes in Pine Level, Alabama and was the seventh child (first girl) of thirteen siblings and was tagged the name of "Sistah" by her brothers.

After graduating from Booker T. Washington High School, she married Samuel Marshall and moved to Louisville, Ky, where three sons and two girls were born.

She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Spring Hill Baptist Church in Pine Level, Alabama. Lela became a member of Von Spiegel Missionary Baptist Church, serving as a member of the choir, head of the "Kitchen Committee" and served on the Board of Trustees.

Lela was an avid gardener (vegetables & flowers) a seamstress and cook. Her specialty was baking cakes, pies, rolls, cookies, and peanut brittle. Her hobbies were crocheting, knitting, macrameing, putting puzzles together, upholstery and canning. Her hospitality extended beyond family and touched anyone passing through, always beginning with a meal.

Lela, was a devoted mother of five children; Two daughters: Sylvia Bogle, Anderson, IN, Valerie (Calvin) Polk, Louisville, Ky, Ernest Marshall and Samuel Marshall Jr of Louisville, Ky and James Edward Marshall, Atlanta, Ga. 28 Grandchildren, 31 Great Grandchildren, one sister Rosa Carter of Montgomery, AL, Sister Niece Winifred Roberts, of Louisville, Ky, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and extended family.

She was preceded in death by parents Noah and Lela Holmes, husband Samuel Marshall, sister Mattie Evans, 10 brothers William, Hezekiah, Johnny, Arthur, Albert, Robert, Noah, David, Franklin and Clyde Holmes.

Services will be 12:00 Noon, Saturday, August 5th at L.C. May Funeral Services 2024 Madison Ave.  Anderson, IN.  Visitation will begin at 10am.  Pastor Norman Sizemore of Von Spiegel Missionary Baptist Church, Louisville, KY will offer the Eulogy.
