Jennie E. Blackwell, 82 departed this life on December 23rd at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Anderson, In surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Dekalb, MS on November 17th, 1937, the daughter of Lee and Callie Fox McWilliams. In 1954, she married William “WC” Blackwell and from this union were born Gladys Merlene Weatherly, Stephon Blackwell, Corey Blackwell and Brent Blackwell.
She attended Dekalb Community Schools and worked in various restaurants throughout her life. Jennie was a natural at cooking/baking. She was well known for her pound cakes. Despite her talents in the kitchen her passion was child care. For over 30 years she provided excellent care for multiple families in Anderson. She enjoyed fishing, gardening and was an avid sports fan. She faithfully followed the Cubs, Colts, Pacers, Marshall and Michigan football.
She is survived by daughter Gladys Weatherly (Dennis Boards), sons Stephon (Loretta) Blackwell, Brent (Regina) Blackwell, four brother in-laws Foree (Betty) Dixon, Ollie (Dorothy) Dixon, Narvie (Jacque) Dixon and Warren Dixon. Four sister in-laws Ella Tee McWilliams, Mandy Bibbs, Mary Ann Dixon, and Joann Allensworth. Grandchildren Janna (Lindsey) Brown, Ashley Weatherly, Taylore (Jamal) Adams, Jordon Blackwell, Jules Blackkwell, Carrington Blackwell and Samantha Blackwell, four great grandchildren along with a host of nieces, nephews and cousins, special friends of the family, Mr. and Mrs. Mark Boatman and son and a special thanks to caregiver Yolanda Prado.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years William “WC” Blackwell, son Corey Blackwell, parents Lee & Callie McWilliams, brothers Edward & Roosevelt McWilliams, in-laws Mr. & Mrs. Sam Blackwell, William & Callie Dixon and niece Catherine McWilliams.
