Fred Jones Obituary

Fred Arthur Jones 80, passed away unexpectedly at his residence, May 31, 2020. Also affectionately known as “Doc,” he was born October 21, 1939 in Troy, Alabama to Arthur and Clara Mae Woods, Jones. The family moved to Anderson, Indiana in 1947. Fred attended Friendship Missionary Baptist Church where he had given his life to God at an early age. Once he graduated from Anderson High School, then he enlisted in the United States Army. He served for three years after which he received an Honorable Discharge. He was later employed at General Motors where he was a member of the UAW Local 662, he was employed there for 43 years. Fred was a loving father, brother, uncle and friend. He was an all-around Handy-man who loved to fish and work in his yard, and other people’s yards as well. Above all of this his favorite thing to do by far was to socialize with his many family and friends. Every knew his smile…and his truck from a mile away.

Fred’s loving memories will be held near by his companion of over 60 years, Betty S. Turner. He also leaves to cherish his memories a daughter Ulonda Jones (Nathan) McClendon, and a son David “Skip” (Ella) Rush; grandchildren LaWanda “Disney” McClendon, Ariana Rush, Matthew Rush, Nicholas Rush, Jacob Rush, and Vernon Turner. He also leaves a granddaughter that he raised as his “child,” Nataile McClendon-(Bruce)Douglass. Living the long life he lived, he also leaves great-grandchildren; DeAndre’ L. Turner, Nigel Turner, Natailena “Ling” Douglass, and Brecelle “Lance” Douglass.

Fred also leaves his siblings; Ethel R. Ingram, Margaret R. Griffin, Johnnie M. Miles, Mae F. Griffin, Charles P. Jones, and Kenneth L. Jones; uncles Clem Woods, Jimmy Woods, and James Woods and a host of Very Special nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Clara Mae Woods Jones; sisters Annie R. Jackson and Diana Jones Hamilton; grandparents Clem and Ida Woods; brothers-in-law, Henry D. Ingram, J.C. Griffin, and Roy C. Griffin; and great-granddaughter Bubbles Douglass.
