Albertina Dawkins went home to be with her Heavenly Father Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at Community Hospital in Anderson, Indiana at the age of 97.
She lived a great life of love! Originally from Monterey, Louisiana, she and her husband James Tolliver had ten beautiful children and he was deceased in 1989. She then moved to Anderson, Indiana to be with her oldest daughter Jean Morehead. After several years she met her second husband Robert Dawkins at the Sherman Street Church of God, and they were joined in marriage in 1982. After his death she and her youngest daughter Pam Jackson became members of the Pasadena Heights Church of God in Indianapolis, Indiana where her Son-in-Law Rev. James Morehead a professor at Anderson University was also the Senior Pastor. It was there that the former Pastor Rev. Sterling Carr honored her with the title of "MOTHER OF THE CHURCH"! THAT IS WHO SHE HAS BEEN FOR OVER 27 YEARS. Mother Albertina prayed for and LOVED HER CHILDREN, and the entire congregation claims her as their mother too!
Being from the south which was openly segregated during her childhood she was only able to finish the
10th grade but that didn't keep her from fulfilling her lifelong desire of helping others. Although she could not go to college, once she moved to Indiana, she was able to complete training for home care patients and this was the closest fulfillment of her wish to become a nurse. Many patients of the St. Vincent home care program were blessed by her loving care.
Albertina was preceded in death by her loving parents Rev. Arthur and Mrs. Zula Lewis, her daughter Carolyn Tolliver and several sisters and brothers. She is loved and survived by her, Sister Sarah Allumn, St. Louis, MO, and Brother Rev. Joe Lewis, of Ferriday, LA, other nine children, Jean Morehead, Pam Jackson, of Anderson, IN; Mack Tolliver, Flora Williams, Beverly Harding, Dewayne Tolliver all of Louisiana, and Faye Steele, Elizabeth Parker, Lucille James all of Chicago, IL, and bonus daughter Sharon Buchanan. And she will be highly remembered and loved by her 40 grandchildren and 131 great grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren! And as a MOTHER OF HER CHURCH many Church children, families, and friends.
