Lucius Jordan Obituary

Lucius Holmes Jordan, age 95, completed his earthly labor to receive his heavenly crown, on Saturday, July 23, 2022. He was born in Newport, Arkansas on April 28, 1927, to the late Ruben Holmes and Izetta Warner. He was reared by his grandparents, Will and Millie Jordan.  Lucius was a hard worker from an early age. He began as a sharecropper in Newport, and eventually followed his grandparents to Anderson, Indiana in 1944. When Lucius arrived in Anderson, he secured work at Levelle Foundry, and later as a dump truck driver, and eventually became employed with Delco Remy, where he retired in 1995 after more than 30 years of service.

Even after retirement, Lucius remained a dedicated, hard worker. He would spend hours, from sunrise, to sunset, tending his garden, taking care of his immaculate yard, or working on vehicles. He could often be found spending time with his late, long-time friend, Heiney, at “Heiney’s Garage.” Aside from gardening, Lucius enjoyed fishing, riding bikes or his moped, traveling to visit family, watching game shows such as The Price is Right and “Steve Harvey” (Family Feud), talk shows, Walker Texas Ranger, Rifleman and other classic westerns. He also greatly enjoyed time with family and friends. As the eldest sibling of 16, he became the president of the Holmes-Warner Family Reunion, a role he maintained for over 20 years.

Lucius accepted Christ at an early age and was a charter member of Anderson Zion Baptist Church where his grandfather was also a charter member and deacon, under the leadership of the late Reverend Devasiour. Outside of church, Lucius was an original member of the beloved local gospel quartet, the Heavenly Five Singers, of which his brother, James L. Warner later became the lead singer.

Lucius leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 69 years, as of July 21, Coma Francine (Shell) Jordan, two daughters – Lucine (Jordan) Woodson of Fort Wayne, IN and Courtney Jordan of Anderson, IN, five grandchildren – Stephanie Burton (Bobby) of Fort Wayne, IN, JaNiylah, Jaheim, Justice and Jalen all of Anderson, IN, and one great grandchild, Nakia.

Also left to cherish his memory are his siblings, James L. Warner (Daisy), and Vera Calhoun, both of Anderson, IN, Mary White of Arkansas, Linda Holmes of Wisconsin, Ruby Leverson of Kentucky, and Vickie Holmes of Arkansas; one sister-in-law, Barbara Garrison of Florida; one brother-in-law Nat Johnson (Sally) of Anderson, IN; two special nephews, Rev. L. D. Clay, Jr. (Lillie) of Anderson, IN and Morris Shell (Sally) of Arkansas; special friends Alton and Alice Knight, who helped care for Lucius during his final stages of life, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Lucius was preceded in death by his grandparents, Will and Millie Jordan, parents, Ruben and Izetta, and his siblings Eola Miller, Zeola Clay, Cleo Warner, Monroe Warner, Charles Warner, Freddie Joe Warner, Dissie (Warner) Alexander, Lamar (Morse) Warner and Henry Holmes.

Please accept our most heartfelt sympathies for your loss.
