Jack “Jackie” Emerson Jr. was born October 18, 1941, in Montgomery, AL. He passed away May 24, after a brief illness. He graduated from Anderson High School in 1960, and sang in the Boys Glee Club, after graduation Jack served in the U.S. Army and was a Veteran of the Vietnam War.
He is survived by his niece Darlene Kiel of Albany, GA, nephews and cousins, who most all reside in Alabama and Georgia; his niece Ms. Darlene Emerson Kiel, is the daughter of Jack’s older brother, Willie L. Emerson, who passed in Albany, Georgia. He is survived also by a host of adoptive family and friends who have known him most of his life, which include, Family, members of Wallace Temple A.M.E. Zion in Anderson, IN. Horton Family and it’s many branches in Anderson, Indiana.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Jack Emerson Sr. and Hattie Mae Green Emerson. Eliza “Sweet Pea” Horton Robinson was his adoptive mother who raised him, and she was his biological aunt and the sister of his mother (Hattie Mae Green Emerson) who died when Jack and his siblings were children. Rev. Henry H. Horton, the founder and first pastor of Wallace Temple A.M.E. Zion Church, where Jack grew up as a member, was like a father or grandfather to him.
He will receive military honors at Marion National Cemetery, Friday June 3, in a private ceremony. Condolences can be placed on the lcmayfuneralservices.com website.
